Allison TP - 5

I met with XinWen today to continue our tutoring! We got together during her lunch hour as usual and I took her to Moe's. She had never had any type of Mexican food before and had no idea what a taco was. Needless to say, I had an interesting time trying to explain the menu to her. After explaining the different menu items to her. She decided to try a burrito, and she was thoroughly pleased with it. We created a long list of new vocabulary for her today including tortilla, guacamole, cilantro, salsa, quesadilla, burrito, etc. One of the major speaking issues she had today was saying preposition instead of presentation.

During our meal, I asked what they were currently working on in her grammar class. She said that her teacher was going over old material because they were supposed to have some really big test on Friday. I explained to her that this type of test was called a midterm because its half way through the semester. She said that's what the teacher had called it but she forgot the name. Thus, we went over the present progressive verb tense together. I had her explain what various people were doing around the restaurant. She said nearly everything perfectly until she tried to use "busy" as a verb, which I quickly corrected her on, and she realized her error. She seems to feel pretty confident about the test. However, she doesn't feel so good about one of her compositions. She has already gotten to her third draft on one essay so we looked over it a bit. Tonight we're meeting up for dinner so we'll continue to go over it then even though tonight is supposed to be more of a CP meeting than tutoring.
