Ted Hong - TP6

On Monday, May 21st, Quyen and I agreed to meet at 3:10 after her classes. Apparently she had forgotten. I waited around for about 10 minutes and was ready to call her until Rose had come in. Being friends with Quyen, I asked if Rose knew where she was and she did so she ran over to get her (lot of pronouns there...).

Finally, we met again. And I had some things I wanted to cover with her, an adjustable lesson plan, so to speak but she had something more pressing she wanted to focus on. She was working on a composition in making comparisons and contrasts and asked for my help. Her topic was graffiti art vs. museum art, which in my mind are not necessarily mutually exclusive but she had made an entire outline already so I went with it.

There was a distinction in types of museum arts and I kind of wanted to suggest to her a particular one but I feared that it may be more difficult at her current level to further her writing. Not to mention the composition was due the next day. So we went with it and I found that one of her main points was an overarching one that in a sense covered her other two and remedied that. It took a bit of time to sift through her handwriting.

This session was a bit of a difficult one, having to explain concepts and getting head nods that had me doubting her comprehension. She may have understood it but she never relayed it back to me so it was hard to evaluate. I tried talking slower but not to the point of patronization. On top of that, she seemed like she had some place to be, which ended up being true when her uncle called.

I hate to say it but I think she's one of my more difficult tutoring students in helping, not through any fault of her own but rather my inability to help. So, now I'm going to go into research mode to see what resources I can pull up and assist.
