Aaron-TP 1
On Thursday I met one of my tutoring partners for the first time. After a quick introduction, we got into going over hard to pronounce words and words with a phonetic abnormality; such as mechanics. I went over words he has lots of trouble correctly pronouncing like particularly. He asked me to explain the difference between In order to and Because, because he was confused as to when it is appropriate to use either term. Knowing Arabic helped me quite a bit with this because their are Arabic equivalents to both terms. I told him to think of the Arabic terms Le-Anna and Besabab. Besabab being equivalent to In order to and Le-Anna being equivalent to because. He also told me about his difficulty differentiating between his P's and and B's. The P sound does not exist in Arabic and I have noticed that this is a common problem. I wrote down words starting with these two letters and asked him to read them as quick and clearly. there were a few mistakes, but overall he did great. I then explained the difference between "I have been working" and "I worked". He was confused as to the difference of these two statements. We went over similar phrases and he seemed to come out with a better understanding.
