Aaron TP7
On Wednesday I met with Abdullah for I tutoring session. We met this time at his apartment. When I arrived he offered me a drink. I had told him no thank you, but he didn't take no for an answer. He made me some coffee, and brought out some fruit and cookies. I thought this was very nice of him to do. He told me the previous day that he had a TOEFL exam coming up and he wanted to go over the practice books for the exam he had. We started with the first chapter which started out with the words cultivate, intensify, fertilize, aggregate, photosynthesis, precipitation, nutrients, obtain and irrigate. I assumed this wouldn't take very long, but finishing this first chapter took well over an hour. We started with definitions, I would typically give him two different definitions, other than the one given in the book. Then I gave him an example and asked him to give me an example in a sentence. I also gave him the Arabic equivalent from Google translate and asked him to explain the words to me in English, for speech practice. Quite a few of the words in the book seemed a little weird to be on a ESL exam, such as photosynthesis. Abdullah had difficulty pronouncing this word, and after me saying a few times so did I. The session went pretty well, I would have liked to get more words in, but Abdullah wanted to really go over every word. When I was about to leave Abdullah gave me a banana and an orange. I told him Shukran! and that he is a great host!
