Olumayowa TP-6

So I bet you guys are super excited to find out what happened with Aadl's project, right? I should blog with more urgency, it really was quite a story to tell about 2 weeks ago.

I got out of class on Wednesday and sent Aadl a text message, asking him how his presentation went and if he'd like to meet like we always do on Wednesdays. He replied telling me that he didn't go to class and I knew that he didn't complete his project so we had to meet in Strozier right away. Arriving almost 2 hours late, I discovered that not only had he not done his project, he had not made any progress from the point where we left off on the previous day even though he had told me that he was working on it. I could tell that he hadn't even considered the directions that I had given him earlier because we had to go over the requirements of the assignment all over again. It became very stressful when we began to work on the assignment, he obviously wanted to sit back and watch me do the assignment while I wanted to sit back and give him a helping hand when he needed it. This is a project on an imaginary 7 day vacation, so I had a very hard time trying to help with details like what his transportation would be and what places he could visit in his chosen destination (hawaii). Halfway through our progress, Aadl decided that he wanted his project to be about taking a cruise rather than going to Hawaii so we basically started all over again. I have never been so stressed in using Google than on this meeting, when I had to show an English learner how to use it and how to process the large amounts of information that it throws right in front of him. I can imagine why Aadl buys English language workbooks that are way above his level, but he just gives up when he has to do a Google search.

Three hours later, I was saved by his conversation partner who showed up and took the reigns, allowing me to go to my swimming class. I made sure to ask Aadl how the project went after he had presented it in class and he wasn't very happy about it, saying that there were not enough pictures in his Prezi. I got to discuss presenting with him and why the most important part to his audience is the information conveyed, he seemed to understand what I meant. But from experience, its very likely that he simply wasn't listening!
