Austin CP8

So for this meeting of the minds, I contacted by friend Sean Guy, who lives in Tel Aviv, Israel. Sean's parents are British, however, they emigrated to Israel some years ago. Sean was born in Israel, and he is fluent in Hebrew and English. We talk via Skype quite frequently, and so I figured why not use him for my blog?

I met Sean two years ago when I was in Israel visiting my cousins. Sean was in the IDF (military) at the time, and I got to know him and some of his colleagues. He was a flight instructor for the Israeli Air Force, which I think is pretty cool. We are both fans of the band Pearl Jam, and we are each going to see them at separate concerts this summer (his is in Berlin, mine is in Pensacola). We each know the lyrics religiously, so we usually begin each Skype conversation jamming to a song or two.

We spoke Monday night, and we began singing the song "BLACK", which is awesome. Then we discussed Euro 2012, and that how England is always choking in major tournaments. I have actually seen my friend cry after a loss by England, which to me is pretty funny. We each picked the winner of Wednesday's match (He picked Spain, and I went with Portugal). I was wrong, and so now I owe him a beer for the next night out.

He wants me to abandon my plans for teaching in Spain and teach in Israel instead, which I have to say I'm considering. It would be pretty cool to go to a country where everyone speaks English, and be surrounded by family and friends. I suppose I'll go to whichever will hire me.

Finally, we discussed the situation in Syria and Iran. Sean thinks we should just let the Syrians kill each other, which seems to be exactly what we are doing. As far as Iran is considered, Sean proposes a well-placed Atom Bomb right on top of Tehran. I suppose I never considered how much some Israelis despise Iran for sponsoring terrorism. I suppose I can't blame them.

We ended it as we always do. "Shalom, Haver. Ata melech haolam." Which means "Goodbye, my friend. You are the king of the world." Mutual respect, always.
