On Thursday, 6/9/12, I sat down with Rose and Butsawan again during lunch.
Haha. They asked if I were still "under the weather" and I had a small moment of being proud. lol Probably because they're using that phrase. In any case, I still wasn't quite feeling so hot and I thanked them for their concern. It was a nice little conversation but it got into some pretty serious stuff. Rose brought up some stuff from her listening class and they were going over racism and some pertinent history of Tallahassee.
Rose was interested and wanted to know more so she asked me. We talked about sit-ins and the meaning of civil disobedience. We jumped to MLK to Gandhi and a little bit of Malcolm X. Butsawan knew all of this but she had learned of it in Thailand. I thought that was awesome. I tried using Vietnamese history that I had learned to kind of make an analogy, but that didn't quite go so well. Rose noticed a discrepancy in which history was taught in Vietnam and here and I think she got the impression that the Vietnamese were hated over in America. I told her there are differing views and some times they're not entirely informed.
We talked about the Vietnam War a bit and how the going-ons were over here and I was able to tell of general happenings (JFK, assassination, Nixon, Watergate) but I was ashamed to say that I did not remember the stuff I had focused on in history. I need to go through my notes and review. Tsk tsk, man. Tsk tsk.
