Olumayowa CP-10

Last Thursday was my last day of the summer semester in FSU so I was feeling super chilled out; I turned in my final portfolio to the teacher of my Article&Essay class, texted Joe to wake me up on Landis green whenever he was ready to meet, then I want to my favorite shady spot to hang my hammock. If anyone sees a red & gray eno hammock hanging in the group of pine trees in front of strozier library, feel free to come by and say hi; if it isn't me in there, I guess you just made a new friend.
I was sleeping inside the hammock when Joe jiggled me awake, scaring the crap out of me. He was wasn't familiar with hammocks so I had to get out and make him get inside and discover the most comfortable way in the world to sleep. He was mostly creeped out with the thought of sleeping out in the open while people are walking by, even though he admittedly sleeps inside the library and in his office often. We got to talking about the possibilities of being comfortably homeless as a college student; I had a phase during a hard semester where my friend allowed me to sleep inside his office on late nights and I really enjoyed it, working very long hours on projects/homework and taking breaks to sleep on the floor or eat meals from the mini fridge that I microwaved. I would just bring a change of clothes that I kept in my car and take showers in the Leech Center. Joe is super studious and is very used to this; he gave me a lot of advice about secretly "living" in my office when I'm a grad student like how to hide evidence from the cleaning staff. Allegedly he has a colleague who successfully did this for a semester until the cleaning staff realized that he always was asleep in the office at 7am.
I have a friend of a friend who has been going to school for a while, sleeping inside his hammock or in his truck in the parking garage in USF. I wonder what will happen if he gets caught, or if it even is illegal. I would totally do something like this while backpacking around the country, carrying a bike or a kayak on the car (Timothy has a kayak and a million fishing poles with him at all times). I got to introduce Joe to a little of the culture of self sustainability since he saw this as insane, he was intrigued though.  So far he has only gone tubing on Ochlocknee River so I'm sure that he'll be down for a small camping trip if he has free time. He is taking a break from school and traveling to Niagara Falls soon, I'm so happy for him since he never seems to take a break!

  1. I thought about doing this in my office, but I got a comfy home to come back to. Not a bad idea though!
