Xueping CP 3

  May 22th
I was so delighted when I realized that Michelle had made some good progress in speaking and listening.  For example, when she saw me at CIES, she could greet me by using more expressions, not only “Hello!” “Hi”.  She could say “How are you?” “How are you doing today?” So I think that helping her build up self-confidence in speaking English is very important.
Last week, I observed Michelle’s reading class given by Calyn.  This reading class is Group 1 class.  I knew that Michelle’s morning classes, grammar, composition and reading are in Group 1.  However, her speaking and listening are both in foundation group.  When I observed her reading class, I could feel that she couldn’t understand the teacher’s words very well.  This observation reminded me to try my best to help her improve her basic listening and speaking skills as soon as possible so that she could participate in her class better.  Therefore, I asked her whether we can meet with each other twice a week.
I pointed at my calendar on IPAD and taught her to read Sunday to Saturday.  I also used You tube Videos to interest her and help her to remember them.  After I was sure that she could read and identify them, I asked her to write down them.  This is a good way to build up her self-confidence since her writing is better than her speaking.  Also, writing words down is helpful for her to reinforcement her memory.  Then, I told her that I would meet with her on Tuesday and Thursday each week.
Secondly, I spent about 20 minutes in reviewing alphabet with her.  I played Real English Lesson 3 for three times. For the first time, she learned how to divide 26 letters into seven groups according to their pronunciation, which are:
A  H  J  K
B  C  D  E  G  P  T  V  Z
F  L  M  N  S  X
I  Y
O
Q  U  W
R
In addition, we learned some basic conversation such as “What is your name?” “Could you spell that (for me)?” and “Can you spell your name?”.  These conversation could help to use and identify letters more correctly.
