Having experienced "real" Chinese food last week, I wanted for XinWen
and Joyce to experience my heritage's cuisine! Thus, it was Italian
night in my apartment. I picked them both up from their respective
apartments and brought them back with me. I prepared some baked ziti
using my mom's family recipe. (Didn't have time to do the full out
sauce/gravy though since that takes like a whole day to make.)
Regardless, I think it turned out pretty well. Both of the girls told me
that it tasted like they got it from a restaurant. I am sure that they
meant this to be a compliment...though I feel like an Italian would take
it as as insult since it was homemade haha. I would have busted out a
bottle of wine since I know its XinWen's favorite, but I didn't want to
get her in trouble for having a drink underage.
The girls learned quite a bit of vocabulary. They
admired the fish tank that I have in my living room and I introduced
them to all my little fish. (They all have epic Greek names like
Hercules and Adonis). Joyce already knew most of the fish-related terms
since I took her to the aquarium on our roadtrip. However, I was able to
teach XinWen about fins, gills, and floating.
Knowing
that Joyce loves dogs, I was excited to introduce her to my roomie's
dog, Emitt. Although he is not mine, I'm pretty much his "aunt" because I
help take care of him and he always runs to me first. Needless to say,
both XinWen and Joyce were very taken by the little guy. He is a
chihuahua but not yappy at all (which I know, is a miracle for the
breed). Joyce thought it was so funny that Emitt was so little compared
to my family's dog which is a large golden doodle. Overall it was quite a
fun evening!
