Kelly TP-6

I met with Jesus during his lunch hour. I think he scarfed down his lunch in the other room as he walked in a bit late, with a slightly guilty look, and out of breath.
Jesus gave me a vocabulary list and a definite/indefinite handout that he wanted help on prior to our meeting via IPAD magic camera internets. I had planned on working on his vocabulary first, but we went right into the articles. He had some basic questions on when the use of said articles would be appropriate, and again, his "beautiful mistakes" seemed to stem from a direct translation from Spanish to English. He had a fairly good grasp on what exactly definite and indefinite meant, but it seemed to become more clear to him as I presented him with some comparative sentences. *Ie: 1. indefinite: "Somebody call a policeman!" vs. definite: "I must call the police man who helped me find my stolen wallet."
This was an excellent segue way into his vocabulary list which consisted of some kind of awful words; perish, downcast, accost, eerie, lurk, and gruesome- which gave me the perfect excuse to use the Miami face eating horror story as a perfect example for "gruesome." (Jesus didn't know about this story and exclaimed, "But I was visiting Miami this past weekend!") I had prepared some visuals, videos, pantomime, and example sentences for his vocabulary list beforehand which was a great help. I really do think that having those visuals really drove the terms home for him. It helped to clear the confusion he had between linger and lurk.
I wanted Jesus to try and remember to use articles in speaking (I had been exaggerating mine already), so I asked him to tell me about a typical night at home. Apparently the host family he stays with watches movies on the regular. He told me about some movie about a vet? and maybe a circus? but mostly about an elephant? It's not that I didn't understand him (he was very careful and accurate with his articles), I just had no idea what the film was, and he couldn't remember the name.
This made me show him the video of the elephant painting a picture of an elephant. I have heard sad stories of how these elephants are trained to do this, but it's still amazing.
