Xueping CP 5

  May 29th
Michelle is more and more self-confident with herself.  It’s very obvious that she can listen to others and communicate with others better.  When I met with her for the fifth time, she seemed very glad to show me her grammar quiz score which she had got recently.  And she was wearing very high-heeled shoes today and looked very tall.  (Today, we would talk about numbers. )
So I started our fifth lesson with the question, “Michelle, how tall are you?” and she answered me, “one hundred and sixty eight centimeters.”  I stood up from my seat and compared with her, she was very happy to see that she was much taller than I.
Real English Lesson 8 teaches about cardinal numbers and ordinal numbers.  I guessed that Michelle knew most of the words about numbers.  However, I was not sure if she could use them in a right way.  Therefore, I played the video for the first time, and ask her to repeat all the number words in the video, then write them down.  After I checked the words, I tried to explain the difference between these two types of numbers.  I made some examples to show the difference.  I asked her, “How many chairs in the classroom?” she answered, “Ten.”  Then, I showed her three chairs in the row she was sitting in and told her the difference between “three chairs” and “the third chair.”  She is so smart that she could understand the difference very quickly.  This is my luck to teach so smart partner!
At last, I listed some general usage of cardinal numbers in the sentences.  I practiced some of them with her, such as “ How old are you?” “How many children are there in your family?” “How tall are you?” “How many students are there in your class?”
Next time, we would learn more about ordinal numbers, which is more difficult than cardinal numbers.
