Yasuko and I met up again the day after we did the pronunciation packet because I needed hours and she was available. Thankfully, she had already determined what she needed help with that day. She took out the same presentation that we had worked on briefly the day before. She explained that the presentation went very well, but she wanted to practice her presentation for me for pronunciation purposes. The project was planning a dream vacation and she had chosen to go to New York and stay at some ritzy hotel. She liked that the whole assignment was designed to be imaginative (which was one of our new vocab words of the day).
As we went through her daily schedule, I was able to correct a few verb form errors. However, the main words she always seemed to be missing were her articles! I can understand why the use of articles might be difficult for those of Asian language backgrounds since they don't quite use them like we do. However, they were missing at a pretty high frequently so perhaps that is something I should focus on with Yasuko for next lesson. Lastly, I introduced her to a new type of sentence structure. I'm not sure if its correct grammar or not, but its definitely used colloquially. It was (subject+verb+and+so+is/does). For example, I like pizza and so does Mayowa. It took me a while to explain how both the subject person as well as the person in the predicate needed to be in a similar state of being or agreement. Ultimately, I think she understood what I meant though.
