Sarah- CP6

Last night, Ruth and I went to Starbucks and sat for two hours just talking and having fun. She has a presentation today in her Speaking class about food, so she had to go home afterwards and prepare something. Hearing her talk about how much she likes to cook, I am jealous of her classmates! She talked about going to a friend's birthday party at the Coliseum this past weekend, and I got a kick out of those stories as well. Conversation soon turned personal as we began talking about boys, and life, and expectations. She said she doesn't like "what's up" boys, and that there are so many here in Tallahassee. Her explanation of "what's up" boys was hysterical, and involved an imitation that looked a bit like this:

She also said that if I want to practice French, I should forget my old boyfriend, and get a French boyfriend! I told her I'm happy having a French speaking friend (her) for now, but she made a valid point, saying that I would talk to my boyfriend "toutes les journees, tous le jours". (all day every day!) So according to Ruth, I'm supposed to go to Paris on vacation, and find a boy who loves me and will follow me back to the United States, all before I go to Colorado for grad school! Although her plan has some serious flaws, I can't help loving the romanticism of it all, and I think Ruth should write chick flicks.

While we were talking and she was schooling me in my pathetic imitation of the French language, a girl walked up and started talking to us! She said she goes to FSU and is getting a French minor, and wanted to know if Rosetta Stone was working for me. Ruth had to make her slow down her English a few times, but I think she caught on and started separating her words more. She was very interested in CIES and having a conversation partner in the fall, so hopefully she will pursue that. Ruth got her name and phone number to be friends. She is so outgoing and sweet!

Ruth is really intent on improving her English and loves to be corrected. She even asked me to test her one of these days. So next time I'm going to record some of our conversation and give her some grammatical feedback. I just have to figure it out on my phone... Daaavid!!
